FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do I make a booking?
To make a tattoo booking please complete the booking enquiry form on the 'Book Now' page of my website. Alternatively, send an email to jacobgwynntattoo@gmail.com with the following information: - Full Name - Contact Number - Description of design/concept - Placement on the body and a clear photo of the area to be tattooed (Please make note of any scars or existing tattoos) - Any reference material to illustrate your concept - Your preferred dates or days for your booking
  • Why do you only do bookings via email?
Unfortunately my availability is very limited for phone calls. I work Tuesday- Sunday from 9am-6pm, so my availability to meet in person or take phone calls is very limited. When I am tattooing my clients, I give them my full attention. It is unfair to expect a client to stop mid tattoo for me to take consultations or answer the phone. I prefer the use of email as it is the easiest method to manage and stay on top of bookings and enquiries. We all use social media and know how quickly our inbox fills with story reactions and spam. It is easier and more efficient to have all communication in one location and it means that your enquiry is prioritised and never lost.
  • What is your design process?
I require creative freedom for all tattoos, therefore reference images will be used as inspiration only. It is important for a client to know, that not all reference images or designs will work! The amount of space required to complete a tattoo varies depending on the size and amount of detail in the concept. The placement of the tattoo is important. When you stand or move, your skin moves with it. For example, portrait pieces on the ribs are extremely difficult for the client and the artist, because 1. it is painful and 2. the body is contorted at the time of tattooing, in a way that differs to how the skin would sit if the person was simply standing. Similarly, a full body portrait of Ironman can be squeezed on to the arm from the shoulder to the elbow, but it won’t look as detailed and flawless, compared to doing that same design on a leg. A tattoo of Bart Simpson is awesome, but if you want it on the top of your foot, it is likely to fall out…. As a senior tattoo artist, I have almost a decade of experience and as such, I ask that my client trusts me to design their concept in a way that will have maximum impact and that will last! Creative control over my work is fundamental to receiving my best work. It is for this reason that design work is done ahead of time and is ready for review in-store on the morning of your first appointment. Designs are not sent out in advance.
  • Can I arrange a face-to-face consultation?
Due to the current high demand, consultations are currently via email. However, if you are looking at beginning a larger project, such as a full front or back piece, an in-store consultation can be arranged.
  • How much does it cost?
Remember that the amount of detail in your tattoo will be dependent on the amount of time that you invest into your tattoo. A sleeve cannot be completed in a day. After you have provided a description of your concept, I will do my best to give you a time and price estimate of your tattoo. However, please note that an initial quote should be considered as a guide only, as there are numerous factors that will impact how long a tattoo will take to complete, included but not limited to, how well a client can sit.
  • Do I need to make a deposit?
A deposit is required at the time of your booking to secure a day and time. A date will not be locked in until a deposit is received. For a full-day session, a deposit of $300.00 paid via bank transfer is required, which will then be deducted from the cost of your tattoo at the end of your session. If you are booking multiple days, a deposit of $500.00, paid via bank transfer, is required which then comes off the total of your final session.
  • What payment methods are available?
Payment is to be made on the day of your tattoo. No exceptions. Full payment can be made via eftpos through the square terminal or with cash. Unfortunately, due to some untrustworthy clients, bank transfers are no longer accepted after your session is complete. *Please note that I will no longer be taking split payments.
  • What is your cancellation policy
Cancellations require a minimum of 72 hours notice in order for a refund of any deposit to be issued. Re-scheduling an existing appointment requires 72 hours notice in order for your deposit to remain valid. Any changes made to bookings without adhering to the 72 hour notification policy, will result in a forfeit of your deposit. A new deposit will be required to rebook your next session. (Special conditions apply relating to COVID or isolation.)
  • How should I prepare for my session?
Eat a big meal before you come in. This is the time to load up on carbs! Be hydrated. Drink water and ensure you have a good night sleep and rest before your session. Do not attend your session if you are unwell or if you should be isolating or are a close contact of someone Covid. Bring snacks, sugar and a drink or two. Bring headphones to listen to music or a book to read. We will usually break at around 1pm for a 30-minute lunch break. There are local eateries in the area, so you can leave to eat, or bring a packed lunch. Some people like to bring pain killers and to take them mid-way through the session. This is ok. If you are worried about the pain, you can purchase a tattoo numbing foam and bring that with you and I can apply it throughout your session. I recommend Hustle Butter’s Numbing Foam. Bring an aftercare balm with you (Dr Pickles) to apply to your completed tattoo.
  • Tattoo After Care
Every artist has their personal preference for tattoo aftercare. I recommend BAKING your tattoo a few hours after it is completed. Once you get home, rest and then have a shower and turn the water on as hot as you can physically handle. Run the water directly over your tattoo for as long as you can (between 5-10 mins). This will help the healing process. Let your tattoo dry completely and then apply a thin layer of a tattoo balm that contains D-panthenol. I recommend Dr Pickles Tattoo Balm. Apply this to your tattoo every day to keep it moist and prevent it from drying out. Do not swim until your tattoo is completely healed. Your tattoo will itch and your skin will peel off, where we have done the tattoo. Your skin will be the colour of the ink used- this is normal. Do not pick or pull the skin off. Let your tattoo shed naturally. An antihistamine assists to relieve the itch.
  • Can I apply numbing cream before my session?
In my years of tattooing, I have personally tried and used several products to assist in reducing the discomfort of the process for the client. Numbing creams are a great option, especially for full-day sessions. I personally recommend NUMBASTAY numbing cream, it is Australian made and formulated by pharmacists. Numbastay will numb the area where it’s applied and reduce redness, irritation and itchiness. Method of use: 1. Wash and thoroughly dry the area. 2. Apply a thick layer of the cream to the area we will be tattooing 1 HOUR prior to your appointment. 3. Wrap the area firmly in cling wrap. Try not to sweat or rub the cream off, while it is developing. We will remove the cream when you arrive in studio.
