I was absolutely blown away when I was announced as the winner of the "Best Tattoo Artist on the Gold Coast" competition by our leading newspaper, The Gold Coast Bulletin. It is such an incredible award and it meant so much more because nominations were put forward by the public. THANK YOU!
I often feel like I have tattooed some of the best, most interesting humans that I have ever met in my life. Honestly, this award would not have been possible without the support of my clients, family and friends. It's funny because "tattoos" used to be associated with a lower socioeconomic status and moral standing (I think it still is by some), but it feels like times are changing. Tattoos are becoming more accepted and appreciated for the art that they truly are. I have created incredible works of art that have been dreamed up by corporate professionals, tradies, environmental conservationists, politicians, psychologists...you name it. People from all walks of life have an interest in tattooing and immortalising moments, people...even pop culture scenes or movie characters...that have been instrumental in their lives or that have impacted who they are today. I am so glad to see the stigma attached to tattooing dissipate and tattoo artists be recognised for their artistic skill and creativity.
When I got into tattooing I never could have dreamed that I would be approached to judge competitions or be featured in publications- but it feels like a dream that has come true...a dream that I didn't even know I had. So, I guess I want to say thank you to everyone who nominated me for this award and thank you to my clients and supporters- I couldn't have done it without you. I can't wait to hit the convention circuit (now that Covid isn't ruling out lives) and see what epic projects are in store for me in 2023 and beyond.
